Scrapbooking ~ Part Two

Scrapbooking can either be done on a single page or booklet style. It can even done on a altered book - which means you are scrapbooking over an existing book or magazine. I have done a few scrapbooking projects and because I cannot afford most of the expensive items offered by the scrapbook stores, I opted for other items such as wrapping papers, using cardboards to make my tags, buying ribbons in bulk and using stickers that you can buy from MPH bookstore or from Newstand.

I have even made my own scrapbook booklet. The front page is decorative while the inside are ten pages of either black or white paper. These scrapbook booklets are for sale and once the pictures are ready I will post them.

Scrapbooking is a very addictive hobby. It makes your mind think and when you are in the mood to scrapbook, ideas just flow in. You can record many events in your life when you are Scrapbooking. From pregnancy to birth, your children's first day at school, the love of your life, your wedding - ANYTHING under the sun can be scrapbooked about.

Here are some of my scrapbook projects.

Scrapbooking ~ Part One

Scrapbooking is a method for preserving personal and family history in the form of photographs, printed media, and memorabilia contained in decorated albums, or scrapbooks.

Sample of what scrapbooking is all about!

Scrapbooking is a very popular hobby in the United States, Australia and Britian. This hobby has produced some of the finest 'hobbyists' and they have a strong social network. They would get together in each other's homes or a local community center and scrapbook together. In addition to that, they would share and exchange ideas.

Some hobbyists have turned their hobby into business by opening stores selling scrapbook materials. In Malaysia, it has caught on but not as popular the other countries. And I know of only two shops in Malaysia that specializes in scrapbooking : Papeier Love at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara http://www.papierlove.com/ and the other shop which I cannot recall is in One Utama (New Wing).

For more on the idea of scrapbooking you can check out these sites which also has its own magazine :

Scrapbooking

We have been absent from this site for almost 11 months. But we have a pretty good reason. We have been busy making crafts. We have made a few scrapbooks
from scratch. These mini scrapbooks are individually made and hand-binded. The covers are wrapped in lovely wrapping papers and the inserts are either in black or white paper. We will post these mini scrapbooks individually for sale soon.

Polymer Clay Designs

Firstly, for the benefit of new crafters, polymer clay is a sculptable material based on polymer polyvinyl chloride. It usually contains NO clay minerals, and is only called 'clay' because it can be used for similar purposes as natural clay.

For a seasoned crafter, polymer clay is an enjoyable and rewarding craft. A lot of things can be done with polymer clay. You can sculpt or hand-shape the polymer clay into items of any size or for that matter to your own creative imagination. You can also make beads and jewelry such as pendants or earrings. You can even make buttons. You can also make necklace using the 'cane' method.

'Canes' in polymer clay craft terms are actually logs of clay with patterns running through their entire length, from which identical slices can be cut and used in various ways. The patterns created in canes can be simple, complex, or anything in between; they may be pictorial or simply geometric. Picture here shows how a polymer cane looks like. This cane was done by a Linda Weeks.

After the whole sculpt and hand-shape process is done, the polymer clay has to be baked at a certain temperature in the oven.
Note: once an oven is used for polymer clay, it can never be used again for food. This is because the chemicals in the polymer clay is harmful when baking.
